Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 12, 2026 Effective date: July 12, 2026
This is a compliance template pending attorney review. It is written to cover the required-content checklist for this document type in genuine, plain-language detail, but it is not final legal text and has not yet been reviewed or approved by a licensed attorney. See docs/deliverables/A13-legal.md for the full compliance package and review status. Do not rely on this page as binding legal advice.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Path to Insure collects, why we collect it, how it's used and shared, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to pathtoinsure.com and every page, calculator, and tool on this site.
1. Who we are
Path to Insure (“Path to Insure,” “we,” “us”) operates pathtoinsure.com, a U.S. insurance comparison and education website. [Legal entity name and state of formation — pending business-entity formation] is the data controller responsible for the personal information described in this policy. For privacy questions, requests, or complaints, contact us at privacy@pathtoinsure.com or by mail at [Registered business address — pending].
2. Information we collect
We collect several categories of information, depending on how you use the site:
- Session and analytics data. Pages viewed, referring site, device and browser type, approximate location (derived from IP address), and on-site behavior, collected automatically through our analytics tooling.
- Calculator inputs. Values you enter into a calculator (for example, age, ZIP code, or coverage amount). By design, calculator inputs are collected anonymously and are not tied to your name, email, or any other identifier unless you separately submit a lead form.
- Comparison-tool inputs. Similar to calculator inputs — the criteria you enter to compare insurance options, also collected anonymously by default.
- Lead-form information. If you request a quote or ask to be connected with a partner, we collect what that request requires — typically name, contact information (email and/or phone), ZIP code, and basic coverage details — and any consent choices you make on that form.
- Email subscriber information. If you sign up for our newsletter or content updates, we collect your email address and your topic preferences.
- Optional account information. If the site ever offers accounts (for example, to save comparisons), we collect the email address and preferences associated with that account.
- AI-feature data (if and when offered). If we launch AI-assisted tools that accept document uploads or conversational input, any document or message content you submit is processed for that session. See “AI features” below.
- Communications. If you email us or submit a contact form, we keep a record of that correspondence to respond to you.
3. How we use your information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the site, calculators, and comparison tools.
- To measure site performance and understand which content and tools are useful (analytics).
- To connect you with a carrier or partner when you submit a lead form or click a partner link, and to pay the partner or network the referral or commission that results.
- To send newsletter or educational content you've opted in to receive.
- To respond to questions, corrections requests, and other communications.
- To detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents affecting the site.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
4. AI features
If Path to Insure launches AI-assisted features (such as a document explainer or coverage-guidance chat), transcripts and any uploaded documents are used only to generate a response during your session and are not retained after the session ends unless you take a separate, explicit action to opt in to storage. If you opt in, retained transcripts and documents are deletable by you at any time and are subject to the retention limits described in Section 7.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information to unrelated third parties. We do share it with:
- Carriers and affiliate/lead partners — only when you click a partner link or submit a lead form, and only the information that request requires. This sharing happens as a direct result of your own action, not as a background data sale.
- Service providers we use to run the site — hosting and content delivery, analytics, email delivery, and similar vendors — bound by contract to use data only to provide their service to us.
- Advertising networks (including Google AdSense or comparable contextual ad networks), which may use cookies or similar technology to serve and measure ads. See our Cookie Policy for details and opt-out information.
- Legal and safety purposes — if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Path to Insure, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers— if Path to Insure is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy's protections.
6. Cookies and tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies for site functionality, analytics, advertising, and affiliate-link attribution. The full inventory of trackers, their purposes, and how to control them is in our Cookie Policy, which is incorporated into this Privacy Policy by reference.
7. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose it was collected, using these working retention periods (subject to updates as our business entity, partner agreements, and applicable state law are finalized):
| Data category | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Newsletter/email subscriber address | While your subscription is active; deleted within 30 days of unsubscribe, aside from a minimal suppression-list entry kept to honor your opt-out going forward. |
| Lead-form information | Up to 24 months from submission, then deleted or anonymized. |
| Optional account information | While your account is active; deleted within 30 days of an account-deletion request; automatically purged after 36 months of inactivity. |
| Calculator/comparison-tool inputs | Retained indefinitely only in anonymous, aggregate form — no personal identifier is attached. |
| AI transcripts/uploaded documents (if opted in) | Rolling 12-month window; deletable by you on demand at any time. |
8. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we've collected about you and why.
- Access a copy of that information.
- Correct inaccurate information.
- Delete your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions.
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information, including for cross-context behavioral advertising.
- Limit use of sensitive personal information.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise a privacy right, email privacy@pathtoinsure.com. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out-of-sale/-share request where legally required.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the specific rights listed above under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act. We do not sell personal information for money, but some of our advertising-cookie activity may be considered a “share” under CPRA's broad definition; you can opt out using the contact method above or a recognized GPC signal.
Other state privacy laws
Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws have parallel (though not identical) rights. We apply the same request process described above regardless of which state law applies to you. The list of states with comprehensive privacy laws changes as new legislation is enacted; this section will be updated to reflect the current list at each review cycle.
European visitors (GDPR)
Path to Insure is a U.S.-only business that does not market to or price for European visitors. Incidental visits from the EU/UK may still trigger limited GDPR obligations; if you are contacting us from the EU/UK about your data, email privacy@pathtoinsure.com and we will respond consistent with applicable law.
9. Children's privacy
Path to Insure is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards — including encryption of data in transit and at rest for sensitive fields — to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
